Melted Cheesecake

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I ran across Ian Bogost’s blog post about trying Arby’s Cheesecake Poppers after reading about his Guru Meditation game.

We all know that melted cheese is A Good Thing, but he seems to have run across a fringe case.

For precautionary reasons, we’ll note it here.

He observes that deep fried cheesecake sounds tasty in theory, looks good in the fancy promotional photos, but…

In practice, though, these things are seriously nasty. The cheesecake melts a lot in the deep fryer, despite what the photo shows above. The fried surface looks much more brown and mottled and much less crispy. All put together, when you dip the Cheesecake Popper into the raspberry sauce and then bite to release the oozey, white middle, it feels and looks like you are chomping into a huge, fetid troll pimple, swollen with foul pus and blood.

This appears to be an actual instance where melted cheese is A Bad Thing.

You’ve been warned.

(Though no melted cheese is involved, you might also appreciate his Transformer and Hello Kitty pie vents.)
